Ahead of his DC Universe debut in HBO’s Lanterns, DC/Warner Bros. has announced Aaron Pierre will be reprising his role in the upcoming Superman sequel, Superman: Man of Tomorrow.
Production on the pic is beginning this summer in Atlanta, and DC co-head James Gunn is returning as the writer and director.
Pierre will first star as John Stewart/Green Lantern in the titular HBO series. Pierre’s casting in the film continues to solidify Gunn connecting his DC film and television projects.
In Lanterns, “two intergalactic cops,” one new to the force and one who’s a legend among the force, who are “drawn into a dark, earth-based mystery as they investigate a murder in the American heartland.”
Who else is returning for the film, and who is playing Braniac?
Superman will see David Corenswet return as the hero, with Nicholas Hoult coming back as Lex Luthor. The film’s story will see the two team up against Braniac, played by Lars Eidinger.
As The Hollywood Reporter notes, most of the cast from the film is coming back, including Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane, Skyler Gisondo as Jimmy Olsen, Sara Sampaio as Eve Teschmacher, Isabella Merced as Hawkgirl and Maria Gabriella de Faria as The Engineer.
The release date for the film is July 9, 2027.
